Offer information on cardiovascular health, especially if a woman is diagnosed with an early menopause or premature ovarian insufficiency.
Cardiovascular health can be improved by:
- Undertaking regular exercise.
- Eating a balanced diet that is low in saturated fat and salt and minimises refined sugars.
- Stopping smoking if applicable.
- Maintaining a normal BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 kg/m2.
- Keeping alcohol intake within recommended limits (<14 units per week).
- Ensuring BP, HbA1c and cholesterol levels are within a healthy range.
Note:
Consider evaluating a woman’s risk for developing cardiovascular disease. QRISK assessment can be carried out to calculate the estimated CVD risk within the next 10 years for people aged 25 to 84 years (including people with type 2 diabetes). Do not use QRISK assessment in people who already have CVD or who are at high risk of developing CVD.
