- Matrix patches can be cut to make small dose adjustments.
- Adjusting patches in this way it is off-license and is presently not supported by manufacturers.
- However, cutting patches is possible because for each formula of matrix patch, the hormone release rate is proportional to the surface area.
- For example, cutting an Estradot 75mcg patch in half will provide two Estradot 37.5mcg patches. Alternatively, cutting a small corner off an Evorel Conti patch will reduce the dose of both estradiol and norethisterone equally.
In the UK all available patches containing 17-beta estradiol are matrix patches.
