SQUAMOUS CELL CERVICAL CANCER
- 80-90% of cervical cancer is squamous cell carcinoma, which is not known to grow in response to oestrogen.
- HRT is therefore not contraindicated in patients with a history of squamous cell cervical cancer.
CERVICAL ADENOCARCINOMA
- 10-20% of cervical cancer is cervical adenocarcinoma.
- Its biological behaviour resembles endometrial cancer, meaning it can grow in response to oestrogen treatments.
- A cautious approach is therefore recommended for these individuals, with advice sought from a menopause specialist or the patient’s gynaecology team.
