SQUAMOUS CELL CERVICAL CANCER

• 80-90% of cervical cancer is squamous cell carcinoma, which is not known to grow in response to oestrogen.
• HRT is therefore not contraindicated in patients with a history of squamous cell cervical cancer.

CERVICAL ADENOCARCINOMA

• 10-20% of cervical cancer is cervical adenocarcinoma.
• Its biological behaviour resembles endometrial cancer, meaning it can grow in response to oestrogen treatments.
• A cautious approach is therefore recommended for these individuals, with advice sought from a menopause specialist or the patient’s gynaecology team.
