This tool is designed for non-specialist (menopause) professionals.
All professionals should work within the limits of their training.
Referrals should be considered at various points, this might mean referring to a GP or menopause specialist if examination, investigation or support is required.
It might mean referring to a more experienced colleague, or a secondary care menopause specialist.
You should always know whom to contact for advice and who your local menopause specialist is.
If the menopause OPT (Optimal Pathway Toolkit) advice recommends it or an experienced colleague is not available, and you are concerned, referral to A&E may be necessary.
