Up to 10% of patches can fall off, causing a disruption to the dosing regimen.
STRATEGIES TO HELP:
- A patch should always be applied to dry skin.
- Skin creases or areas where clothes may catch the patch should be avoided.
- Patch adherence can be optimised by pressing the palm of the hand onto the skin site after application for 10–20 seconds.
- Repositioning the patch to a different site can sometimes improve adherence.
- Smaller patches tend to crinkle less. The smallest patch is Estradot being just 5cm squared.
If patches continue to detach then an alternative mode of delivery should be considered such as the gel, spray or an oral preparation.
