    • Until recently, people on HRT have had to pay for each item of a prescription, even when two hormones were contained in a single pack.
    • Women sometimes had to pay multiple times per year, and more frequently if doses were changed.
    • The new HRT prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) was rolled out on 1.4.2023.
    • The HRT PPC covers an unlimited number of certain HRT medications for 12 months.

    • Prescribers must complete a separate FP10 for each item covered by the HRT PPC to allow patients to claim the exemption correctly.
    • The cost of an HRT PPC is £19.30.
    • Each item on an NHS prescription usually costs £9.65. A HRT PPC therefore covers the cost of two single items.
