Most women will get good symptom control using a licensed dose of oestrogen.
Using a high dose of oestrogen could increase the risk of abnormal bleeding requiring investigation, endometrial hyperplasia or endometrial cancer.
Before prescribing an unlicensed oestrogen dose, a trial of an alternative preparation using a licensed dose should be considered.
Blood tests to check estradiol levels can be considered when prescribing off-license, however clinicians should remain mindful to their limitations. See BMS statement on HRT prescribing.
