Vasomotor symptoms are common in the menopause transition and do not routinely require further investigation unless:
- There are other concerning signs or symptoms that may warrant urgent referral (red flags).
- There are other signs that might suggest an alternative diagnosis or the presentation is not typical for the menopause transition.
- Symptoms are persistent despite hormone replacement.
Note:
The onset of new sweats in older women beginning many years post menopause should prompt investigation for other causes and is not typical of menopause.
