EXAMPLES OF OTHER CAUSES FOR PALPITATIONS:

• Cardiac arrhythmias.
• Structural heart disease.
• Psychosomatic disorders.
• Systemic causes such as thyroid disease, hypoglycaemia, anaemia, fever.
• Medications such as beta2 agonists.
• Alcohol, nicotine and substance misuse.

Where non-hormonal causes for palpitations are suspected, arrange further investigations +/- referral appropriately.

If menopause is suspected, a therapeutic trial of HRT can be given.
